This introductory six bricks activity will help develop children's oral language skills such as listening, speaking, and communicating.
Activity Directions:
Divide students in small groups of 3-4. The teacher will prepare a model using basic bricks and place it somewhere where the children cannot see it. Each group will have a set of bricks.
Groups will select one lead builder who will see how the model is built.
They will then return to the group and explain it to his/her group.
The group should try to build according to the instructions, and lead builder is not allowed to touch any bricks.
The lead builder can go back and forth several times to check and remember details.
Continue until the groups have finalized their models and compare their builds.
Discussion Points for after the activity:
What was easy or difficult about remembering the model?
What "tricks" did you use to remember?
What was it like trying to follow the instructions?
How can you help each other when working together?
